Coaches

Vicky Chen

Vicky is of Taiwanese descent and grew up in Bellevue, WA. She first began playing badminton at the age of 8 and quickly fell in love with the sport! She trained hard under various admirable coaches:  Raju Rai (2008 USA Olympian), Xu Huaiwen (former world #1 for women’s singles), and our very own SBC coaches, Coach Tang and Coach Katy. She began thriving in both local and national tournaments, winning numerous junior titles across the country. Despite outgrowing junior tournaments, she continues to follow her passion for badminton by competing in adult tournaments and returning to SBC as a lead coach, to give back to the community and bring up the next generation of players.

Vicky graduated from the University of Washington (UW) with a B.A. in Early Childhood and Family Studies and recently completed her M.A. in Teaching at UW. She is currently working full-time as a teacher in the Kent School District and coaches part-time at SBC. With her education background, Vicky emphasizes building strong, trusting relationships with her students and forming partnerships with parents to best support children’s needs including their overall physical health and socioemotional maturity. She hopes to create a safe and fun environment for both children and adults to exercise, explore their potential, and make new friends! Ultimately, she aims to help grow and spread the joy of badminton. Please say hi to her if you see her on the courts and feel free to ask for advice or help any time!

Policy

  • Monthly pre-pay system: payment should be made by the first lesson of each month; any missed/canceled lessons may be used as a credit in the next month (Zelle, PayPal, Venmo, checks/cash are all acceptable).
  • Cancellations MUST be made at least 24hrs in advance or there will be a SBC late court cancellation fee of $30. The amount paid CANNOT be used as a credit in the next month.
  • Single-student lessons: please be aware that lessons may be moved or combined in order to accommodate as many students as possible who are seeking lessons
  • Two-student lessons: if a student can’t make it to a class, the other student will be charged the single-student rate

I understand that sickness and life in general can be unpredictable; however, I have 25+ private lesson students and cannot absorb the court fees for all of my students’ unforeseen circumstances, last minute events, forgotten lessons, or no-show lessons. It is also out of respect for my growing waitlist of students that I notify  them of time slot availability a day beforehand. Last but not least, if I am already at SBC and end up waiting around or having a 1 hour gap in my schedule due to a last minute cancellation, students orparents will be charged for that 1 hour of my time. Thank you all for your consideration and understanding!
